Chapter 4b

Volume II – The Land of Xa’ar

Chapter 4: Grave Events 6052 Fall, 6052 Fall, Purlyen 20 (HARP)

The Tomb of Ugus Fost

There are many tombs of the Mahilari hidden in narrow clefts in the high, rocky hills of the Seolfar Strake. Like most others, this one is located above the main forest, a hundred or so feet west of an icy creek that is so steep over much of its length that it is almost a waterfall. The most distinctive exterior feature is a pair of dark pillars of natural stone rising more than fifty feet tall, just south of the entrance and visible from the old dirt road (now more of an animal trail) that runs along the base of the hills.

Uncertain what you will find, you descend into the unknown Tomb of Ugus Fost

You explore the Tomb of Ugus Fost and as you explore the remains of this past King, you note a secret mechanism on the main stairs that ascend towards the Sarcophagus. This mechanism leads to the stairs lowering and offering you access to the much older Tomb of Sirdia-Mah, within which you find the remains of the once great leader of the land – Sirdia-Mah.
Tomb of Ugus Fost

Before the sarcophagus [#9] lies a stone, with the inscription carved into it:

Here lie the remains of Ugus Fost,
Lord of Lu’nak.

Below is an inscription, in the same Elvish dialect from the Journal of Ugus Fost, but now in full details:
Beware of wooden pedestals;
Thrones hewn of ancient woods unbright
Elven treasures below are hidden from sight.
Seek columns of blue and turn the right ones only;
The symbol of Sirdia-Mah marking thy doom
For the opposite grants access to his resting tomb.
And if there should be a stone
Run and seek safety in one light.
For with a flow and a mist of rouge
There will be no right.
First six, then one, then all will war,
The land torn by blight.

With the full poem now before you, access to the under-tomb of Sirdia-Mah is achieved, by manipulating the columns of blue stone on the right side. Before descending into the Tomb of Sirdia-Mah, you ransack what you can of Ugus Fost, hoping to find clues or items that will help in your quest against the insipid Dark Curse.

From the Tomb of Ugus, you take an item from ages past – Byrk Syrkakarg – (“Belt of the Greatking”). You also find, within the Dir-Wood chest behind the Sarcophagus, one of the mystical Bracers of Uniting. An Elven Dagger that has magical properties is later identified by Valaan Mahrindi as having the ability to detect the presence of undead.

You also find a reference to how Ugus was slain and a great evil, summoned to end his reign from the land.

Use this with care – for great is the reward found in the Tomb of the Blue Lord. The moons of five are three only – only when all are balanced and true will the way be open. I leave this here, knowing that I may not return and thus the treasures of old are safe until needed.

I fear The Shard – as only one as evil as Her could ever conceive of such abomination.

May the spirit of Veilk-Mah, lost son of Telim Mah, protect this secret for eternity and keep them safe, of Ice and Fire and the Sea.

A.

Thus you learn how a supernatural being, known as The Shard, ate the brains and bowels of Ugus Fost, taking the organs from the living body of his mannish foe.
